In its 2008 Inaugural Season, the L.A. Musical Salon commissioned four new works from gifted choreographer and dancer Laura Karlin, of Invertigo Dance Theatre in Los Angeles:
O Barquinho (The Little Boat) – written by Roberto Menescal/Ronaldo Boscoli
(arrangement for piano trio by The Blue Rose Trio)
O Canto do Cisne Negro (Song of the Black Swan) – written by Heitor Villa-Lobos
Oblivion – written by Astor Piazzolla
Tango à Trois – written by Neal Desby
These works had their world premiere at the April 5, 2008 Concert of the L.A. Musical Salon. They were danced by Laura Karlin and Marlin Pelayo of Invertigo Dance Theatre, accompanied by Artists in Residence the Blue Rose Trio, and are now included as part of Invertigo Dance Theatre’s repertoire. In creating these new works, Ms. Karlin worked closely with the Blue Rose Trio, in a creative collaboration between dance and music that was a new experience for all participants.
A studio performance of “Tango à Trois” danced by Laura Karlin and Marlin Pelayo of Invertigo Dance Theatre, with music by the Blue Rose Trio (approx. 4-1/2 minutes), can be seen above.
