Once again we were at the chic Bel Air Bar + Grill (on Sepulveda Blvd. near Moraga), in the private Sunset Room upstairs.
Here’s our line-up for 2015, all Saturday nights:
February 7, 2015
Our season kicked off with a fabulous concert by The California String Quartet. Hollywood Bowl Concertmaster Katia Popov, first violin, joined by Luanne Homzy, second violin, Zach Dellinger, viola, and Ben Lash, cello, in a concert that showcased two favorites, Haydn’s Op. 20, No. 4 (one of the “Sun Quartets”) and Schubert’s Quartet No. 14 (“Death and the Maiden”)—plus the world premiere of a new piece for string quartet “A l’ombra del campanar” by composer Vicente Ortiz Gimeno.

Our super-talented and engaging Artists in Residence, pianists STEVEN VANHAUWAERT and DANNY HOLT, who play together as 4handsLA, enchanted us with a dazzling celebration of American music, including Gershwin, Bernstein, Copland, Joplin and others.

In a unique and fun multimedia concert, the City of Angels Saxophone Quartet—Bill Wilson, soprano sax, Sean Stackpoole, alto sax, Cynthia Swanson, tenor sax, and Matt Germaine, baritone sax—swung from classical to jazz and Big Band, including a short but fascinating visual tour through the history of saxophone quartets!
